Host genetics

Amalio Telenti, MD, PhD, Switzerland

Dr. Telenti is Professor of Medical Virology and Co-Director of the Institute of Microbiology at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. A graduate in medicine from the University of Oviedo, Spain, he trained in internal medicine and in infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, and in microbiology research at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, USA. From 1994 to 1997, Dr. Telenti was on staff at the Institute of Microbiology at the University of Bern, Switzerland. From 1997 until 2003, he was director of the HIV Unit and Laboratory at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Dr. Telenti has worked on the molecular basis of mycobacterial resistance to anti-tuberculous drugs, and in the field of antiretroviral resistance and viral fitness. Currently, his primary scientific interest is in the field of host genetics and pharmacogenetics in HIV disease. These projects are supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation. He is a researcher of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study, an associate editor of Antiviral Therapy, and a member of the editorial board for www.HIV-pharmacogenomics.org. His research has been recognized with an Investigator Award for Research from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (1997) and by awards from the Leenaards (2002) and the Cloëtta (2004) Foundations.
