Local Volunteers
The IAS employed 150 dedicated local volunteers to help out with different tasks during the conference period, e.g. in the registration area, conference rooms, entrance area, information desk, media hall, exhibition hall, etc.
Volunteers had to be willing to work for up to 5 days between July 22 to 27, 2005.
To become a volunteer, these individuals needed to be fluent in Portuguese and English, and work or study in a HIV/AIDS related environment in Brazil.
What did they gain by becoming volunteers? As a volunteer they received:
- 10 USD per day
- Meals at Riocentro
- Free transport from downtown Rio to Riocentro
- Access to sessions - a timetable was organised to allow each volunteer to have time to attend some conference sessions.
